Samie Johnson has been making art as an essential means of expression and healing since childhood. Using a variety of mediums, tools, crafts they create work for personal growth and reflection and revel in the expansion of connection and perspective that creation in community brings forth. With a background in community muralism and large-scale mural projects Samie brings knowledge of technique and process to their work. Past experiences include working as a Public Ally coordinating activities and programs for elders in the North Minneapolis Camden Neighborhood Center through AmeriCorps and working as a studio assistant. Samie’s path first led them to Hope Community as a volunteer in the gardens and a participant in a 2018 Ripple Ecology program. Now, Samie is the Art of Radical Collaboration Organizer at Hope where they co-facilitate the Power of Vision Mural Project (POV) and the Transformational Creative Strategies Training (TRCSTR). Meaningful collaboration and holding space for leadership development drives how they work. Samie is a devoted auntie, aspiring dancer, and loves spending time outside in all seasons.
