Administrative Communications Liaison- Power of Vision Mural Project 2019 Community Mural

 

About the Project:

The Power of Vision Mural Project (POV) was founded in 2004. We collaborate with youth and adults in the Phillips and Whittier neighborhoods of Minneapolis to create community murals through that uplift community narratives and stories, develop skills and leadership, and build relationships.  We are now a partnership of Hope Community and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

 

In 2019, POV is collaborating with PPL (Project for Pride in Living) in the spring and summer of 2019 to create a large-scale mural in Phillips Neighborhood.  A cohort of artist-organizers will conduct community engagement, collectively design and paint the mural on the side of PPL’s new office space on Franklin Ave in Phillips Neighborhood.  The three institutions involved hold a collective 200+ years of experience working in the Phillips/ Whittier community, and we will utilize our relationships, deep listening, and a collaborative approach to ensure a powerful, locally relevant, and beautiful mural and process.

 

About the Job:

The Administrative Communications Liaison will facilitate a smooth and effective mural design and implementation process.  They will work as part of the Mural Leadership Team to develop and track communications, tasks, maintain timeline, and other logistical support.  The person in this role will participate at many levels of this project and hold a significant portion of its logistical and communications needs.

 

Details:

Mid March 2019- Mid September 2019

15-18 HOURS/WEEK.

Schedule hours and specifics will be determined with Administrative Communications Liaison and mural leadership team.

 

In this role you will:

  • Set up meetings, send reminders and follow ups
  • Document and take notes on meetings and tasks
  • Obtain permits and contracts between participating parties and the city/ other entities as required
  • Serve as the primary holder of communication between leadership team, community partners, contracted artists and other stakeholders
  • Participate in creating and promoting materials relating to community engagement and events
  • Participate in purchase of supplies, food, and materials for planning, meetings, mural sessions, engagement sessions and other events.
  • Maintain overall accountability to project timeline

Required:

Skills/Abilities

  • Minimum 2 years experience with project management
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong creative thinking, reflection, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong English language communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to plan and manage time, information, and multiple priorities; to follow through on commitments and meet deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as to work as a member of a collaborative team
  • Ability to ask for help, take direction and receive constructive feedback
  • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Ability to carry/ move materials up to 30 pounds
  • Dedication to equity and ability to work with a diverse constituency (in terms of race, class, culture, gender, age, education, ability, country of origin, language, sexual orientation, beliefs)

 

Preferred:

  • Conversational proficiency in language(s) other than English
  • Experience with Hope Community’s approach to engagement
  • Relationships/ experience working in the Phillips community
  • Community arts education, public art, community engagement and/or collective mural leadership
  • Experience cultivating and maintaining community partnerships
